Recognized Alumni: November 2024
At the Asociación Raleigh, we occasionally highlight remarkable members of our alumni community who continue to inspire through their actions. This time, we are proud to feature Chama Greentalist Alumni, also known as Jonathan Corrales, for his lasting contributions and dedication.

Who is Chama?
Chama Greentalist Alumni is a naturalist guide from Guanacaste and a proud citizen of La Cruz, on Costa Rica’s northern border. His life is driven by a deep passion for nature, culture, and meaningful projects. He first joined the Asociación Raleigh during the 12L Expedition in 2012. Later, he participated in the ICS 13X program in Nicaragua in 2013. By 2021, he became part of the first generation of Greentalist.
In November 2024, while the 24L Expedition was underway, we reflected and realized it had been 12 years since some of us first met Chama. Over the years, he contributed to numerous Asociación Raleigh activities and continuously extended his commitment beyond our initiatives.
Protecting Nature, Culture & Oceans
Chama Greentalist Alumni began volunteering as a firefighter with the Área de Conservación Guanacaste in 2016. Since then, he has actively supported numerous wildfire responses. Moreover, his dedication has taken him abroad, representing Costa Rica in Canada in 2022 and 2024.
In 2017, he joined the Yaji Yazra Majimi Cultural Association, a youth-led project in La Cruz, Guanacaste. There, he works to protect cultural heritage and promote positive cultural appropriation of archaeological sites. His passion for community art also led him to create murals that beautify public spaces and inspire people to connect with their history and traditions.
By 2022, Chama expanded his conservation efforts to the ocean. He collaborated with CCmar on marine research in the northern Pacific islands and contributed his diving expertise to protect marine ecosystems.
Notably, Chama Greentalist Alumni has no social media accounts. Instead, he prefers genuine, in-person connections. His commitment is visible in every action and the lasting impact he leaves behind.

For Our Alumni: Share Your Story
If you have been part of one of our projects and want to share your story, or if you would like to join one of the Greentalist Society committees, we would be happy to talk with you.
